Soft Water Can Save You Cash!!

Consider Extending the Life of Your Appliances!

The term "hard water" was originally coined to refer to water that was difficult or hard to work with. Hard water requires much more soap, shampoo or detergent than soft water, so your soap products don't stretch nearly as far. The effects of hard water are felt most often in daily household activities such as cleaning. The minerals present in hard water inhibit soap's lathering and cleaning capabilities.

According to a University's Water Heater-Energy Savings Study, the lifespan of appliances such as water heaters, washing machines and dishwashers can be reduced by as much as 30 percent when hard water is used in the home. Also, when hard water is heated, the minerals in the water can precipitate out and form scales in the bottom of the water heater. These scales may build up and result in increased water heating costs.

Another factor to consider is the high costs associated with repairing major appliances. How much would you be willing to pay to repair a 5-year-old washing machine? Due to the high cost of repairs, replacement is often the best option once hard water has wreaked havoc on an appliance. By using soft water you can add more than three years to the longevity of most of your appliances (approx) -- and save yourself the expense of replacing them much sooner than you expected.

The first step in solving hard water problems is determining the hardness of your water. One simple way to find out is to give us a call and we will come to your home to see the hardness of your water by doing a simple test.

10 Reasons and 10 Benifits for using Whole House Filters

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Harmful chemicals constantly escape into the air in a home from the dishwasher, the toilet, and the shower.

  1.  The release of water contaminants into the air results in poor air quality in a home. This poor air quality is a leading cause of asthma and bronchitis.

  2. The use of a countertop water filter and shower filter cannot entirely protect a home from harmful water contaminants.

  3. Shower filters, because they must filter water at extreme temperatures, are not 100% effective at removing all dangerous contaminants.

  4. Many skin rashes and other irritations are a result of chlorine and volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) that have become embedded in clothing washed in chlorinated water.

  5. The dishwasher releases more chlorine into the air than any other water source in the house, besides the shower.

  6. The use of a whole house water filter is the only way to ensure pure, filtered water from every water source in the house.

  7. A whole house water filter purifies water efficiently and cost-effectively, making it a viable solution to drinking water contamination for a majority of people.

  8. The 2100 known water contaminants can make their way into our bodies not just from drinking the actual water but also from inhalation and dermal absorption.

  9. Merely avoiding drinking tap water by indulging in bottled water is not an effective means of protection against dangerous water contaminants.

10 Benefits of Using a Whole House Water Filter

  1. Clean, filtered water emerges from every water source in the house.

  2. Chlorine and other chemicals are removed as soon as they enter a home’s plumbing system and are no longer released into the air.

  3. When chlorine and other chemicals are removed from water used for washing, these chemicals can no longer become embedded in clothing.

  4. Removing chlorine from the water used in dishwashing prevents chlorine vapors from being released into the air and reduces soap scum on dishes.

  5. Using a whole house water filter greatly enhances the overall healthfulness of drinking water.

  6. Using a whole house water filter can alleviate the effects of asthma and allergies (for those who already suffer) by providing cleaner air to breathe in the house.

  7. Filtering water through a whole house water filter eliminates the risks of both drinking and showering in contaminated water.

  8. A whole house water filter is the only truly effective shower filter. It filters water at low temperatures to facilitate the removal of chlorine and other chemicals.

  9. Using a whole house water filter ensures protection from the carcinogenic effects of both drinking and inhaling chlorine and other dangerous chemicals.

  10. The use of a whole house water filter is the last means of protection from breakdowns in municipal water treatment and sanitation systems.

Chlorine and Eczema

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Our skin is our body’s number one defense against germs or getting sick. It is a protective layer that keeps us healthy and protects our organs. There are so many factors that affect the health and condition of our skin. Having eczema can make this a little more challenging because the moisture that we need isn’t produced as it should be.
There are a lot of external factors that affect an eczema flare up such as weather, lotions, makeup, soap, and laundry detergent. One factor that you may not realize that is so harmful to your skin condition is water. Most, if not all, city water is treated with chlorine. Chlorine however is hurting us and not helping our water. Here are some of the effects of chlorine on our skin and eczema.

First and foremost, chlorine dries out your skin. This is bad for people who have eczema because their skin already is naturally dry and has hard time maintaining moisture. It can also dry out your hair as well.

With the concentrated chlorine in your bathing water, over time the chlorine’s effects really add up against your skin. After showering you can feel itchy, dry, and notice a rash. This is an uncomfortable feeling to have every day.

Showering is more harmful than swimming in a chlorine treated pool. The hot water from your shower opens your pores, to cleanse, but the toxic gases caused from the steam and heat are easily absorbed by your skin. In addition to drying you out, you can prematurely develop wrinkles.

There are other harmful effects of chlorine in the water you bathe in and the water you drink. Chlorine is used to fight off bacteria in our water, yet it causes so many other detrimental health problems. In addition to causing atopic dermatitis or making it worse, it has also been known to cause cancer. If you drink tap water that has been treated with chlorine you run the risk of hurting your bladder, stomach, and breasts. It can also really flare up asthma attacks which are commonly associated with eczema.
